Safeguarding

TST aims to safeguard and promote students’ welfare, safety and health by fostering an honest, open, caring and supportive climate. The students’ welfare is of paramount importance.

What to do if you are worried a learner is at risk of harm:

If you feel a learner is at immediate risk of harm to themselves or others, please contact the emergency services on 999.

During TST hours please contact a member of the safeguarding team on 01579 384798 and speak with a member of staff to pass on your concerns.

If you have concerns about a learner when TST is not open, please contact one of the relevant numbers below. Learners travel from all over the South West to attend Transferable Skills Training so we have included details for Cornwall, Plymouth and Devon:

We follow the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children and recognise our responsibility under the Children’s Act 1989 and section 175 of the Education Act 2002, to have due regard to our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare and wellbeing of children and young people.

We will take all child protection and safeguarding concerns seriously and will respond to them promptly, keeping the child/young person/vulnerable adult at the centre of what we do.

Our Safe Guarding commitment;

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and
    effective care, and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

There are four main elements to our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which you can also read in full HERE.

  • prevention (eg positive school atmosphere, teaching support to students, safer
    recruitment procedures)
  • protection (by following agreed procedures, ensuring staff are trained and supported to
respond appropriately and sensitively to child protection concerns)
  • support (to students and school staff and to children who may have been harmed or abused)
  • working with parents (to ensure appropriate communications and actions are undertaken).
