All our courses have a high emphasis on practical learning, whether that is through work experience or functional skills, which are embedded in all aspects of the courses. There are a range of enrichment activities available to all the students encouraging self-confidence and teamwork.
We have a unique approach to learning which is very successful, working in small groups with dedicated and highly skilled staff who are experienced in working with young people who may have complex issues. Our results are outstanding, with over 90% of students passing their qualifications in the last 3 years.
Our study programmes are designed to provide students with a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development and progression in line with their career plans. Our study programmes are individually tailored, and combine the elements below:
We use qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for education at the next level or for employment. We are an approved centre with OCN London (OCN LR) who offer vocational pathways.
OCN LR offer nationally recognised qualification which are regulated by Ofqual. Their qualifications support post-16 education and employment routes, such as Study Programmes. Due to the variety, flexibility and versatility of these bespoke qualifications, educational providers (TST) can develop their own accredited courses to meet their student’s needs.
We are an approved centre with NOCN to run Functional Skills Qualification.
The aim of these sessions is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, personal qualities and values that enable them to thrive in the workplace.
All learners, as part of their study programme, will undertake enrichment activities, enabling development of interpersonal life, employability and independent living skills.
Courses are taught in small groups with emphasis on learning practical skills and individual development. Through our unique rolling programme students can enrol with TST at any time during the academic year (subject to availability.)
There are no entry requirements for any of the courses, We assess learners on an individual basis through taster days, informal discussions and observations, and will make recommendations based on this.
We off free tasters day for potential leaners to experience what we have to offer before making a decision about enrolling. If you would like to know more about tasters days or enrolment, please contact us.
First Year Work Experience
During their first year at TST, learners take part in two carefully planned work experience placements designed to build confidence, develop employability skills and prepare them for future employment.
The first placement involves contributing to a local community project. This provides learners with the opportunity to make a positive difference while developing teamwork, communication and workplace skills. It also helps build confidence, self-esteem and a sense of achievement through supporting others and giving back to the community.
The second placement is learner-led, allowing each individual to explore an industry or career that interests them. By spending time in a real working environment, learners gain valuable insight into a specific job role, understand workplace expectations and begin to develop the skills and knowledge needed for their chosen career path.
Second Year Work Experience
In their second year, learners take part in a regular, ongoing work placement tailored to their individual interests, aspirations and career goals. This learner-led placement provides meaningful experience within a real workplace, enabling learners to build confidence, develop industry-specific skills and gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities, expectations and routines associated with their chosen profession. Regular placements also help learners prepare for employment, apprenticeships or further training by developing independence and workplace readiness.
These sessions are split into two elements – Personal & Social Enrichment and Independent Living Skills Enrichment. Both elements are designed to not only enhance a learner’s capabilities and learning experience through enriched activities, but also to develop their emotional resilience, motivation, confidence and independence in line with their EHCP & EHCP Reviews.
The aim of these sessions is to give students the knowledge, skills and understanding to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. This includes helping them to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing and change. As well as, giving them a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead, so they can face a world full of uncertainty with hope.
